There’s a fantasy I can’t let go of—just disappearing for a few days. Not to “find myself” in the self-help-book sense, but to un-become for a while. To put down every label: therapist, mother, daughter, wife, friend. To stop being useful, responsible, reliable… even if it’s just for a weekend.
It’s not about running from love or duty. It’s about curiosity – who am I, naked of obligation? If I vanish for a bit, will I miss myself, or will I meet someone new under all these masks?
There’s a kind of tiredness that sleep doesn’t touch. When you’re the one holding everything together, you start to wonder what would happen if you let it all go, just for a while. Would the world break? Or would you finally breathe?
Most of us don’t disappear because guilt holds the leash tight. Even when nobody’s asking us to step up, our own minds pile on the pressure: “You can’t rest while others are working. You don’t deserve a break.” So we keep running on empty, afraid of what we’ll find in the silence.
Here’s what I imagine:A cabin in the middle of nowhere, my phone on silent (emergencies only). No meals to cook for anyone but myself. No lists, no “just one more thing.” I’d probably eat all my snacks in the first hour, get bored, feel twitchy. But maybe, if I pushed through, I’d find the kind of rest that’s been extinct since childhood, the kind that makes you want to wake up.
And maybe I’d meet the parts of myself I never let out: the messy, raw, unedited self. Maybe she’s kind, or maybe she’s a bit of a bitch. Maybe she just needs a good cry.
But here’s the reality for most of us:Running away isn’t always possible. Not everyone has a place to escape to, the cash for a cabin, or the kind of life you can put on pause. Sometimes the only way out is in. That’s where hypnotherapy comes in.
A journey into your inner world can give you the silence you crave – no suitcase, no getaway car, no need to vanish from your life. Trance isn’t magic, but it’s a door. You get to strip off the masks in a safe space, meet the parts of yourself you’ve hidden, and find out what’s really been lost under all the noise. Sometimes, the deepest freedom is found not by leaving, but by diving inward and reclaiming the pieces you thought you had to abandon.
The truth is, most of my busyness is a way to avoid the hard work of meeting myself in the silence. But if I can do it… if I can let myself rest, even for a little while, maybe I’ll come back with more than just tired eyes. Maybe I’ll come back with a voice, a little lighter, a little less afraid.
To anyone who feels the same:You’re not wrong for wanting to disappear sometimes. You’re just overdue for a reunion, with yourself. If you ever want a guide through that journey, you know where to find me.
