What if the way you’re living your life is holding you back from achieving your biggest dreams? Imagine if you could break free from fear, self-doubt, and limiting beliefs—what would that mean for your future?
Pause what you are doing for a bit and contemplate this concept. If your life were a game, the digital kind. With most games you get limited lives before you need to stop playing and the points, the play is easier, and rewards earned are average. On the other hand, occasionally the game gives you unlimited lives for a period. The catch with having unlimited lives is there are more traps and pitfalls to overcome. However, the rewards are incredible. Which one of these scenarios would be your first choice, the choice that you are happy with, without overthinking the choice.
This idea of choosing between a limited and limitless life reminds me of the famous scene in The Matrix. Neo is offered the choice between the blue pill, which would allow him to stay in his comfortable but illusory reality, and the red pill, which would reveal the truth—no matter how challenging it might be. Like Neo, we all have the power to choose: Will we stay in our comfort zones, or will we take the red pill and step into a life of growth, truth, and limitless potential?
Think about a time when you held yourself back because you were afraid of failing. Maybe it was a career opportunity, a relationship, or a personal goal. Now imagine if you had the confidence to take that leap—where would you be today?
So, what does this mean for us and humans, after all we are not game characters or actors in a movie.
If we live our lives like we have limited chances (lives in a game) we are more inclined to not taking too many risks to preserve the chances we have, even if this means it will take us longer to earn points and move ahead.
Living a limited life can leave you feeling stuck, frustrated, and even resentful of others who seem to be thriving. But what if you could rewrite your story? What if you could step into a life where fear no longer holds you back, and every challenge becomes an opportunity for growth?
On the other hand, if we live like we have unlimited lives for a short period or indefinitely and it comes with huge rewards and advancement, we will be more inclined to take risks and do things that others may consider crazy. After all the rewards will be worth it.
Let’s dive deeper into these options and what this means and why it matters.
When we live our lives limited by “what ifs” and doubts, it creates fear of the future in us that can lead to fear paralysis. We are so afraid of trying things because we have convinced ourselves that it will fail, so we do nothing. This leads to us being jealous and resentful (intentional or unintentional) of those that appear to be flying through life winning.
For those who life their lives limitless, they live knowing that failing isn’t all that bad in the grand scheme of life. If they fail, they get up, dust off and try again, this time knowing full well what caused the failure the previous times. Don’t misunderstand, they are aware of possible failure and are, most times, concerned about the outcome but it doesn’t deter them from trying. It doesn’t mean that those failure/bumps in the road don’t hurt, it does. Regardless, they have built up a resilience to not give up till they know there is no more possible positive outcomes or achieve their dreams.
How did we come to the choosing either limited or limitless?
The short answer is our past, from childhood till now. The way we see our parents or guardians living their lives, the things we personally experience and the things we are taught all impact the final choice.
If every lesson we learn teaches us to fear outcomes and fill us with doubt and dread, we lose confidence and trust in our abilities to achieve anything. This leaves us with very low self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence. We are programmed to believe that we meant to never leave the box we are living in. We can look out and see the rest of the world, but we haven’t given ourselves permission to leave the “safety” of the box and truly find success.
The opposite is also true. Those who were taught that life can be difficult but its worth it to get up again and try again, together with a belief that anything is possible. For these people, for those looking in from the boxes, it looks like they are “lucky,” and everything comes easy to them. Nobody sees how many times they had to pick themselves up and keep pushing ahead. They are confident and have a very strong self-worth.
These profiles don’t only apply to career or finances, it touches every aspect of our lives. We don’t necessarily have the same profile is every aspect, it may be that in with career and finances we are holding back because of this limited view but as a parent, we are limitless in what message we want our kids to grow up knowing. So, each of us have degrees of the two in different parts of our lives.
There is nothing wrong for faulty with either way if you are happy with where you are and the pace at which you are moving forward. However if you find yourself living a limited life and you would love nothing more than to achieve those big goals with the big re. ds, it is time to be brave and create the change that you need. For each person, the way out of the box will be different, however part of the bravery is realising that we cannot do this alone and that is more than just ok to ask for help. It is vital to go back to change those ingrained belief patterns that are not working for you.
I do not thing that any of those living a limitless life would want to be living any other way. The only advice I would venture to share is occasionally slow down and allow yourself time to recharge. Burnout is difficult to deal with, so manage your life and time well.
